Coming from a family with a legacy of philanthropy, Dr. Republica, married to financial consultant and actor S. Sridharan, was driven to action after witnessing the suffering of old and terminally ill individuals without proper care or pain management. This experience led her to establish RMD Pain Relief and Palliative Care in 1994, driven by the belief that pain relief should be universally accessible.
As the Founder and Managing Trustee of the nonprofit RMD Pain and Palliative Care Trust, Dr. Republica spearheads initiatives providing palliative and hospice services to those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The Trust offers comprehensive care, including inpatient, outpatient, home care, and community-based palliative care throughout the state (India).
In her role as Medical Director of RMD Specialties Hospital, which boasts 150 beds across three locations in Chennai, India, Dr. Republica oversees oncology, palliative, and geriatric care services, in addition to general medical and surgical care. She is also a Co-Founder of AURA Holistic Wellness Centre and serves as Principal of RMD Academy for Health, a unit of the RMD Pain and Palliative Care Trust. The academy provides training and education for nurses and psycho-social workers, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, equipping them with the skills needed for effective patient care in palliative settings. By empowering these individuals, the academy enhances their career opportunities and contributes to the broader field of palliative care.
